Set not your heart on the things of earth,
No lasting results may be found.
Riches compiled from our time of birth,
Will only serve to confound.
The rewards of our labor on earth, received,
To provide for those lives we share,
May bring results that don’t seem to last
Because we’re too blind to care.
The more we gain, the more we want,
For a style of life we enjoy.
An endless treadmill of trying to keep up,
Brings fears, our peace to destroy.
Though we enjoy these treasures on earth,
In death they are taken away.
They cannot be taken to heaven with us,
For others will gain that day.
Store up for yourself, treasures in heaven,
Where moths and rust can’t destroy.
Thieves won’t break and steal the lot,
Neither stress and strain can employ.
Delight yourself in God’s own love,
Share the gospel news with others.
Show them the way to heaven above,
And they’ll become sisters, or brothers.
Serving others becomes a priceless gift,
When we become heirs of the king.
Though we may die, we will rise again.
Eternal life with our Lord, we’ll win.
As we enter heaven, that triumphant day,
A blessing from our Father will come.
As He opens the door and welcomes us in.
We will hear him say “Well Done.”
