When the vase had first arrived in this room it had sparkled with the brilliance of the sun, casting images of rainbows and glitter throughout the expanse. Sitting in the place of prestige, the center of the window sill, it had brought hours of wonder and amazement to those who viewed its prism light show.
However, as time passed, the clarity and brilliance of its contents began to fade. Not from lack of use or from anything it had done, simply a fading that comes from the aging of all things. Perhaps there was a growing layer of dust and film that imperceptibly coated its surfaces causing dimness or decay. Maybe the light passing through had somehow altered its structure, dulling its edges and fogging its core. More than anything, it was probably the growing lack of attention. Brilliant glimmers still offered yet ignored by familiarity.
Whatever the cause, it had eventually been moved to a place of obscurity on top of the refrigerator to become all but forgotten. Forgotten, alone, and useless. The light no longer shimmered and bounced around the room because the sun did not reach this far. Purpose lost and glory forgotten.
And now, a new perspective, thanks, impart, to the kitten traversing where it should not. What a journey, so fearful and uncertain. Emptiness. An empty existence like it had never experienced before. The forgotten shards that had been forever nestled within its bowl were gone; shards that had given purpose and glory to its existence. Hollow emptiness replaced the memory of oneness and unity.
Time passed and hopelessness deepened until a gentle exclamation, soft caress, and a warm bath brought the vessel to a renewed perspective. The shards had been returned, again filling its void to the brim. Sunshine passed through its surfaces and brilliance emanated beyond, filling the room with its sparkling light and resplendent colors. Purpose; true purpose; fulfilling purpose once again returned.
