There’s a door we all have made
with inadvertent hands
We’ve built it by the rough design
that selfishness demands
Rough hewn wood, felled in haste
with blood stained streaks the grain
Driven hard, the iron nails
that made the door, the pain
We hung a sign above that door
In foolish pride we mocked
With stinging words, we closed it tight
then faintly heard it locked.
We searched out ways to open it
In every way we tried
The key to open up the door
lay on the other side
Some cursed the door and walked away
Some sat and sorely cried
And through the tears a voice was heard
“You haven’t been denied
Your door was given me
when I hung on Calvary’s rock
Enter through my door all you
who choose to simply knock”
There’s a door we all have made
It’s one we’ll never own
But through the One who opens it
we’ll find our way back home.
