Revelation 4:1 After this I looked and behold a door was opened in heaven..
Naturally, a closed door will stimulate our imaginations to explore what is on the other side, however one should note, God always maintains an open door policy with our spirits. We have only to acknowledge his Grace and enter in by it. The only key needed to gain entrance is devotion to the Holy Trinity. In relation to Scripture, the metaphorical doors ultimately lead to salvation. We need to open the doors of our hearts and minds to receive salvation's powerful message intended for us. Equally transcendent are the words of the poet John Donne (1572-1631) Wilt thou forgive that sinn, by which I have wonne others to sinn and made my sinn their dore? The sinner becomes repentant and confesses his negative actions for having served as a doorway for others to go astray.
During Holy Week, or thoughts turn to the passion of Christ. A refrain in Passiontude (Luke 23:42) speaks of entering into the kingdom through the sacred door of the Holy of Holies: Remember me. O Lord, when thou comest into thy kingdom. As we draw closer to the lighting of the Easter candle, our thoughts turn to the resurrection. This time the door is represented by a stone rolled away from Christ's tomb. We rejoice in the resurrection and ascension of christ. We too, must pass through the grave and the gates (or doors) of death to our resurrection. An Easter eve prayer joyfully reminds us: Grant, o Lord that as we are baptized into the the death of thy blessed son, our saviour Jesus Christ, so by continual mortifying our corrupt affections we may be buried with him....
During Holy Week, may you humbly enter into the joy of Christ through the door He has thrown open for you.
