I'm a displaced Canadian, living and working in Caracas, Venezuela with FEBInternational Canada. I grew up in a mining community in Northwestern Ontario and have been a reader and a writer since childhood.

In the early seventies (the last century, of course) I was CE Director of a Baptist church in Ontario. As summer was approaching, we discussed the possibilities of doing a Vacation Bible School program for the kids in the neighbourhood. The answer was a resounding "NO". The previous year, the church folk had tried doing VBS, couldn't get the materials when they needed them, or support when they ran into problems. They were not going to attempt such a project again. I asked if they would be willing to do VBS if I wrote the material. Then, if there were any problems, I was handy to be jumped all over at their leisure. They agreed, and that began my first "serious" writing. The first time anyone actually paid me to write happened several years later when Scripture Press Publications published an article I wrote about another VBS program, (this time in Colombia, South America) that turned ugly. "The Tale of A Missionary Car" is published here on FW.

Since then, I've had the opportunity to test my skills in several areas. In Colombia, and now in Caracas, Venezuela, I have written Bible Studies, training materials, plays, Vacation Bible School programs, Sunday School and Discipleship materials.

Inbetween life and ministry in Colombia and Venezuela, I was Communications Director for the mission with which I serve. There I had the opportunity to write promotional, materials, articles on the mission and our missionaries, and to try my hand at editing both a Seniors Magazine, "The Link" and a couple of issues of our denominational magazine, "The Evangelical Baptist" (they were between editors at the time, and grabbed the first warm body willing to take the plunge).

Then of course, there are the endless numbers of prayer and newsletters that missionaries need to write to their supporters. I made the "mistake" of allowing one of my cats to write a column in my prayer letter and, I'm embarrassed to admit, hers is more popular than mine. Imagine, having to compete with the cat!

Recently, I contributed a chapter to "A Glorious Fellowship Of Churches" published to celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Fellowship and am happy to lend my red pencil to the director of the mission when he needs something edited. Unfortunately, I haven't quite caught on to the "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" when it comes to editing. I'm a bit brutal.

I live on the 13th floor (Venezuelans aren't superstitious, at least about the number 13) with my two cats, Abby and Lou. We have an absolutely "to-die-for" view looking down toward the city of Caracas. When I am not writing something, I am doing my other missionary "things" which is just about everything!

The "fun" writing I do includes devotionals, skits, bits and pieces of a novel, converting my own personal journey through the Bible into a commentary. I have even been known to write the odd poem (with the emphasis on "odd").

My hope is to use what skills God has given me to be a blessing to others. That's my greatest reward.
