It's good, Grandpa, real good.
He smiled at her young voice.
So full of innocence, and he was
Determined to keep her heart pure
And so, he set about to be a guard around
Her heart. "Tell me about school today."
And so she did.
"How's your heart, Little One."
It's fine, Grandpa. Trying to do what is right.
He smiled as he gazed at her picture.
A middle schooler now, life had become
Increasingly tricky for her to walk the line
Between God's will and the world.
He nodded, "Tell me about your day."
And so she did.
"How's your heart, Little One."
Grandpa, please don't call me that!
"But, you've always been my Little One."
I'm not anymore. And stop asking me that question.
High school and puberty, always a disastrous combination.
His heart sank as he sagged to his knees.
He bowed his head and began to pour out his heart.
And his Father listened.
"How's your heart, Little One."
It's broken, Grandpa. I don't know what to do...
Or where to go.
"C'mon home, Little One. The door is always open to you."
Life hadn't been easy for his Little One. She had lost her way
And he could only pray that he could help her find her way again.
He bowed his head and began to seek guidance.
And his Father gave.
"How's your heart, Little One."
Growing stronger every day.
He smiled; she had turned her life around
With the help from the Father.
She would be just fine. And he knew it.
He took a deep breath and took a step towards complete restoration,
"So, tell me about your day."
And so she did.
How's your heart, Grandpa?
"Sore, Little One."
He was lonely and she knew it.
Grandma had passed away and now
He was starting to slowly slip away.
Walking away from everything that
He had ever taught her. She knew
What she needed to do.
With a brave chin and a resolute heart
She knelt, bowing her heart, and began to pray
Determined to repay all that her grandfather
Had done for her. She began to stand guard
Over her grandfather's heart, waiting, praying,
And seeking guidance before finally standing and asking
Tell me about your day, Grandpa.
And he did.
