Could she pull it off? Would her hopes and dreams finally be realized in this short eon of timeless competition that stretched from one continent to the other? Would the world finally unite in one purpose through her shining example of love and peace?
Persus, her forever boyfriend, had been her staunchest supporter throughout her yearly contests, assuring her of her worthiness for the winner’s jewel-encrusted crown. Her fans had championed her almost from the very beginning, even giving up their personal aspirations to back hers, seeing in her the possibility to liberate the troubled world. Lilnerca’s mind wandered through countless previous matches leading up to this coup-de-grace pageant that would determine her pre-ordained place in the universe.
Backdrops had been hand-embroidered and painted in meticulous detail to showcase each candidate personally. Lilnerca’s was a black hue tinged to a burnished royal blue at its borders, a subtle attempt to contrast her lucent beauty. The judges themselves, angels from On High spanning centuries before her birth, had paved the way to present-day examinations, generations before them deeming which contenders’ light years of red-hot radiation had evolved into the required yellow-hot luminosity.
Like a Las Vegas neon sign, the contestants glittered in all their frills, dancing their alluring darting points into mini flashy showplaces and, suddenly, Lilnerca’s confidence waned. How could she parade before these stringent panels of judgment, each of them in their shining halos garbed in their daunting rules and regulations?
“Will I be big enough for the task? Am I glamorous enough? Are my gravitational points in perfect symmetry to counteract my inner heat? Is my hydrogen properly vaporing?”
All these negative feelings began to deplete Lilnerca’s helium content, threatening to send chemical formations in her body into free-fall mode. She took a deep breath to steady her edgy nerves, gathering her pressurized sparkling clusters into a radiant glow that only electrified her appearance all the more . . . She stepped forward with renewed confidence . . .
In the end, the judges were not able to agree on a unified decision on who should be awarded the crown; and, therefore, the grandest opportunity to glorify God was denied Lilnerca, as well as all other candidates.
Finally, after billions of human-termed light years had passed, after creation, after The Flood, after prophets foretold, after kings had ruled and kingdoms fallen, the chosen-by-God time had come. For Lilnerca’s dream of stardom had been doomed from the beginning, the angels now bowing before their Maker in obedience to His demand to select not the most dazzling, the most beautiful, or the brightest star; but to choose the lowliest, the smallest, the humblest star in the vast galaxies of time and space. So small, so plain and unknown that her lights were only a flicker compared to the crown competitors, she did not even have a name.
But God in His infinite wisdom saw fit to raise her to the most important position of her kind. Her greatest aspiration had been not to compete for such an honor, but to simply serve Her Creator with all of her tiny being, content to fill a little space if, by so doing, He would be lifted up and glorified.
So God miraculously increased her force of gravity to a pressurized re-shaping until her interior exploded her size and brightness to surpass all the other stars in the universe. And He named her “The Bethlehem Star.” And, so she would be easily recognized by the Wise Men of the East, He gave her a gleaming tail and energized her downward into only 38,000,000,000,000 light years from earth. Vega, Sirius, Regulus, Deneb, the Big Dipper stars, Little Dipper stars and other constellations blinked and twinkled with their two, ten or 100 darting points around and above this Bethlehem Star, dancing their lights across the hemisphere to join the choir of angels appearing to the shepherds to proclaim the birth of the Savior of all mankind.
