TITLE: So They Can Dance | Previous Challenge Entry

Terrified she wondered why,
What caused her to be cast aside
Discarded and alone she cried.
Homeless youth formed a bond
But pretty girls were often conned,
Then schooldays fueled with accusations
Made her cower from education.
Emotionless, all feelings muted
She never spoke nor disputed,
Invasions--criminal behavior--
Who would come, who would save her.
Used to words that cut like razors
After time they didn’t faze her,
But now a husband and a wife
Spoke gentle words that changed her life.
Reach out, God said, teach her to dance,
And so they dared to take a chance,
A childless couple, court appointed
Would help this girl in grace anointed.
The first time ever she received
A stranger’s help--a kind reprieve,
A lump formed within her throat
To golf ball size, it made her choke.
Day by day new self esteem
Emerged from ash and long-lost dreams.
God’s guidance ‘Mom’ and ‘Dad’ employed
To help a girl who’d been destroyed.
Both heads bowed, she watched them pray
In thankfulness for her they’d say,
Sometimes a tear escaped closed eyes
Joy leaped within her as she spied.
Deep within--what was occurring--
Belonging caused the mighty stirring,
Her heart spun in pirouettes
Her ugly past she would forget.
Faith, hope and love when intertwined
Helped miracles bloom from Heaven’s vine,
She grabbed hold of the three strand cord
Her anchor now would be her sword.
In patient love they never shirked
Their task at hand, to do God’s work.
Home schooled she aced grades 8 and 9
And learned to trust, all in good time.
Foot tapping rhythms in her ears
Gave strength to quiet trembling fears,
Her parents’ love, much like ballet
Flowed fluidly and shaped her way.
With her diploma she stood tall
In thanks to Him who gave the call,
To servant hood she now was sworn
Her nurse’s pin was proudly worn.
How can we know the lives we’ve changed
Or circumstances God arranged
So we were where we could be used
To teach dance steps to those abused.
