I glanced around my cluttered room,
My face reflecting my heart’s gloom.
Twenty pages to read,
Three pages to write,
Before I could go to bed that night.

My mind flew back to yesterday.
I heard the doctor sadly say,
“You’ve done everything right,
There’s no more to do,
I don’t know how else I can help you.”

The doctor’s words filled me with fear.
I wished I didn’t have to hear.
With no help to lean on,
Tossed out in the cold,
My back pain would last ‘til I grew old.

Now with closed eyes I said a prayer,
Longing to know, “God, do you care?”
I opened my Bible
To one special place,
And began to read of my God’s grace.

A woman stood still in the crowd,
Too scared to run, and far too proud.
She’d lived with an illness,
No doctor knew why.
Though her body bled, her soul stayed dry.

A shout rang out, “Make way! Make way!”
“Jesus is coming! All make way!”
The crowd surged around her,
All trying to see,
The healer who came from Galilee.

A group of men and one dark head,
Filled the sick woman’s mind with dread.
Oh, how could she face him?
Her hope seemed so small.
She touched his robe in spite of it all.

Then what a shock! Instant relief,
Flowed through her hands, stilling her grief.
Her body felt lighter!
Her spirit restored!
She stopped still and wept, thanking the Lord.

Then she heard him ask, “Who touched me?”
“Come forward so that I may see.”
In haste she came near him.
He spoke calm and mild,
“Your faith has healed you. Be free, my child.”

Now with one hand to mark the place,
And tears trickling down my own face,
I knelt by my bedside,
Full-knowing I’d find,
A friend who could heal my fear-filled mind.

The blood of Jesus shed for me,
Can make my dry soul pure and free.
The healer of bleeding,
His own blood would shed,
To save the whole world, and raise the dead.

Though some may wander far and near,
Tossed by the world and filled with fear,
I’ll always remember,
How wonderf’ly rare,
It is to know a Savior who cares.
