Mummy, why are all our friends distressed?
I see the tear that’s forming in your eye, but
I can’t work out what’s causing such unrest.
I watched the horse-back couriers furiously riding
Out from the palace, orders in their hand,
What truth is in those letters darkly hiding?
Tell me Mummy, let me understand.
Mummy, I can hear your explanation,
I see what’s made each Jew in Susa cry.
Why has the King allowed such devastation
And ordered every single Jew must die?
Doesn’t He know our God in Heaven loves us
And He’s the Mighty God who hears our prayer?
He’ll save us from each foe that would attack, plus
He’ll not forsake or leave us in despair.
Mummy, I hear everyone is saying
That the law to wipe us out can’t be repealed,
That means it can’t be edited or altered
If by the King’s own signet it’s been sealed.
Now I don’t know what’s happ’ning in the Palace
But God’ll use His chosen ones it must be said.
And by them edit every evil malice
And bring about His purposes instead.
Mummy, can I stay up for the party?
I want to praise and celebrate and sing.
The joy I’m feeling deep down in my heart, see
Is overflowing, bubbling like a spring.
For God chose Esther and good Mordecai
And worked out good from all that was amiss.
He overturned the plans of wicked Haman,
For God’s the greatest Editor there is.
