TITLE: Then There Was One | Previous Challenge Entry

Ten danced, ten shared freedom’s embrace!
Ten shouted loud, the heavens rang,
Ten lives were changed - gone was disgrace.
Ten marvelled, unbelievingly,
Wow! Gone was leprosy’s dread sign!
One rushed to show his family
That he was clean, then there were nine.
Nine knew the joy of health restored
And one, exuberant, could not wait
To re-start life. His spirits soared
With new-found zest, and that left eight.
Eight, free from leprosy’s strong grip
Could meet old friends, no longer riven,
One longing for companionship
Met up with friends, and that left seven.
Seven could resume their business task:
Ambition, wealth, employment’s mix,
Security in which to bask
Drew one away, and that left six.
Six healed and cleansed raised eyes above,
Past memories became alive,
One reunited with lost love
Could now be wed, and that left five.
Five felt the enforced boundaries snap,
Free now to travel, roam, explore,
One couldn’t wait his bags to pack
And see the world, and that left four.
Four now could live at home again
Resume responsibility.
Parents and children welcomed them.
One couldn’t leave, and that left three.
Three told their story ceaselessly,
The crowd around them spread and grew.
Excitement, fame, instant glory
Enchanted one, and that left two.
Two visiting the priests that day
Healing confirmed, new life begun.
One, in a strict religious way,
Performed his thanks, leaving just one.
Then one, just one, healed and complete
Turned round, and hurried back again
To throw himself at Jesus’ feet,
And he was a Samaritan.
‘Thankyou’ he cried ‘For healing me,
For showing me mercy divine.’
The Master answered sorrowfully:
‘Were ten not healed? Where are the nine?’
‘Stand up, your faith had made you well,
You’re clean in body and in soul,
Stand up and go, to others tell
That God alone has made you whole.’
Friends, family, job, life and health.
The past, the future, things of now,
Are God’s good gifts, poured from His wealth,
Thank Him for every precious ‘Wow’!
Wow! Clean in body, skin made new,
Wow! Clean within, his sins forgiven,
Wow! Clean as only God can do,
Wow! Clean on earth and cleansed for Heaven.
Lord, help me gain a thankful heart
That’s full of praise. Lord, teach me how
To see your hand in every part
Of life. Then Worship. Thank You. Wow.
