“The Messiah has come; he will save us all now!”
Palm branches they wave in a jubilant, Wow!
With grrr’s of fury and tightly clenched hands
the religious leaders could not understand
this would-be messiah, this ordinary man.
The disciples shrug, huh, as he washes their feet
and says, “This is my body, take now and eat.
Do all of this in remembrance of me.”
Shh, enter the garden where he prays and weeps
while over there his friends are asleep,
and into the night the betrayer creeps.
“Give us Barabbas!” the crowd demands.
“Phew,” grunts Pilate as he washes his hands.
“His blood is on you and your children, then.”
Judas sobs “Ow,” for he now realized;
and his mother weeps “Oh,” as he’s crucified;
“Ow,” mourns creation as the Son of God dies.
Dismayed women gasp “eek,” in the morning gloom
and trembling the soldiers fear their doom,
for, oops, they’re now guarding an empty tomb.
Where, oh Death is your victory? Where, oh Death is your sting?*
Shout Wow! Hallelujah! Rejoice now and sing
for Jesus is risen, our Savior and King!
