These portrayals are just brilliant portrayals of the history teacher:

"The words tumbled out quickly, as if they’d waited years for an audience."

and

"it was as if a curtain fell at the end of a very short act."

Excellent! Great descriptions which lend themselves to characterization and plot. Your ending was perfect.
Hello Beth! So glad to see you're still writing strong. . . I loved "mannequin hands", and questions "flying in under radar"--wonderful imagery, and a beautiful job characterizing Mr. Warbucks. And a surprise--it wasn't battlefield gore, but a lost love that shaped him. We who stay home can hardly realize the many costs. Deeply moving!
