Looking forward to hours of sleep ahead.
Only humans allowed; no cute little purrs.
The clock strikes ten with my door secure.
An alarming “meow” awakens my mind.
What annoying outcry could be so unkind?
Darkness prevails as one eye flutters
“Your turn,” my hubby drowsily mutters.
Meow, meow, meow continues nonstop;
Swirling and flipping into a flop.
I reach for the squirt gun, an ideal ploy,
As I crack open the door with my handy decoy.
A mad dash is seen sliding down the hall,
As I crawl into bed from the slippery assault.
Taking a breath with sweet dreams to come,
My soft sheets and pillow do I succumb.
An annoying scratching shocks my brain;
The chalkboard-like clatter begins a migraine.
I nudge my partner with glaring unrest,
“Just open the door,” it’s tough to protest.
All settled in for a cuddly nap,
I gently shift feline fur with a pat.
Finally peace… or so it seemed.
Until Cat #2 swiftly intervened.
A startling hiss to frighten the dead,
Exploded right over our sleepy heads.
Deep ankle scratches confirmed a decree,
A cage and water would be their destiny.
Alas our snoozing has ripened to sleep,
No more commotions that cause us to weep.
Our feline siblings are no worse for wear,
A bowl of food renders everything fair.
A continuous true story
