O’er mountains and valleys blithely skipping along,
For all of my burdens I have left far behind,
By His Spirit set free, by His Word in right mind.
As a blind man can’t know what the sighted can see
The darkness I lived in was inherent in me;
Like the man Jesus healed who was blind from the womb
All my years had been spent in the doldrums of gloom.
But His light pierced the shadows and opened my eyes;
For the first time I saw what the world had disguised;
The lusts and the pleasures so sleekly portrayed
Were the serpent’s enticements—a devised masquerade.
What freedom! what pleasures in Christ I have found,
What delight fills my heart; in His joy I abound,
His unspeakable joy which will only increase;
With my mind stayed on Him, He will keep me in peace.
Son of David, my Saviour has overcome all
And the one hid in Him, though he stumbles, won’t fall,
O’er mountains and valleys, blithely skipping along—
Maranatha, my hope; joie de vivre, my song.
