Dear friend, I petition for your release
From agony that persists in haunting--
Stealing your joy with Evil’s taunting
Redemption’s purpose--to nullify
Those days you spent in deserts dry
Were you aware of what you were doing
When you then succumbed to worldly wooing
Oh yes, you said and then admit
You wanted fun that wouldn’t quit
But then, the price--each consequence
Came rippling back with stark offense
The clanging of the cold, steel doors
And the dank cement of prison floors
Replay again in your tortured mind
Torment and shame--old foes you find
Dear God, remove these angst-filled waves
Of memories that drown--hold her enslaved
To bad decisions, youth that’s spent
And poisons her heart with discontent
Today my friend, please hear anew
God has forgiven, now so must you
He keeps no record of past mistakes
His love is free, it’s yours to take
Sudden peace rests upon her face
She nods and smiles, accepts His grace
So much precious time’s been wasted
But now His love I’ve finally tasted
I’ll look ahead with eyes on Him
Hope fills my soul beyond its brim
Such wondrous joy I’ve never known
He calls me child--I am His own
In giddy laughter my friend explains
Your prayers severed me from rotting pain
I’m free from guilt, she swirls with glee
No looking back--He’s rescued me
