She could feel a slight sore spot on her neck, but with restraints on wrists and ankles, she couldn’t touch it. Lifting her head, she looked around the room and saw that she wasn’t alone. A woman with long black hair and a silver jumpsuit was watching her from behind a table with Tabitha’s morphing belt and wallet on it.
She remembered a briefing that Diamond had given the team a few months ago. He had described a similar room and woman.
Noticing that Amazing Girl was awake, the other woman spoke. “Hello Ms. Swift. Nice to see that you’re awake. A pleasure to meet you. My name is…”
Tabitha responded, “Angela Jones. Diamond told us.”
Jones moved from behind the table and stepped within Tabitha’s reach. “Glad to know that I don’t have to go through the whole explanation of why you’re here, though this time I have an updated goal in mind. How well you survive depends on your cooperation.”
Jones noticed the look on Tabitha’s face and continued, “Well, survive in the short term.”
She approached with a black and silver device that looked like a high-tech tiara. As she slipped it over Tabitha's head, Jones plugged in a cable from it to a computer.
Stepping to the computer, Jones explained what she was doing to her captive. “This is a mind copier. I will be able to copy every memory in your brain. I want to learn the real identities of the other five members of the Light Force, so I can hunt them down and kill them in their weak forms.”
Tabitha didn’t respond verbally, but she prayed mentally, ‘Lord, give me strength and help me resist this device.”
Jones turned on the computer, and a light in the front of the device glowed bright red. An instant later, Jones murmured, “Hmmm, you’re resisting. I’ll try a higher setting. I'm surprised your weak mind is capable of fighting the copier.”
A moment later, the device’s glow changed to orange and Tabitha felt a twinge of pain. She prayed again not to weaken, and a moment later heard a grunt from her captor.
“I guess your mind isn’t as weak as I suspected. I may have to go to the highest setting. Of course if I do, you won’t have a mind, weak or strong. A shame, I wanted to be able to have you realize how I was able to track and kill your team in their non-super guises. All the while you would be stuck here, weak and helpless to save your friends.”
Tabitha decided that speaking up would do her no harm, so she shouted back, “My mind and spirit are not weak, because of my faith in Jesus. So do your worst!”
Jones frowned. “Of course you believe your so-called Jesus will save you. Unless he’s able to hack my computer, you’re out of luck.”
Tabitha remembered what Diamond had told them about how this woman had weakened his powers. She prayed silently. ’Jesus, this woman thinks I’m weakened by her devices. Please allow me my powers to defeat her machines as you defeated death.’
Immediately after her prayer, she tried to activate her size changing powers so she could slip her bonds. As she was doing so, Jones scoffed, “Jesus isn’t here to save you. Prepare for your weak Christian mind to be emptied.”
Much to Jones’ surprise, Tabitha shrank down to doll size, which meant the bonds holding her in place were loose and the copier fell off her scalp.
Free from the restraints and the power damping collar, Amazing Girl flew to the table before Jones’ startled eyes. Shoving her wallet back in her pocket as she returned to normal size, she grabbed her belt and put it back on, restoring her costume.
Smiling beneath her mask, she spoke to the cowering Jones. “You think my faith makes me weak, but it seems that your reliance on technology makes you weak.”
Jones watched as the hero tore through the wall, flying out of her lab, and decided she’d have to probe the Light Force's vulnerabilities through more direct means.
