When the two men landed just inside the bank, they saw a female form in the shadows. She didn’t seem to be armed, which Megawatt thought was odd. After all, who would rob a bank in a town with superheroes without a weapon? Then she stepped into the light and the pair’s mouths dropped open. The thief was unrealistically beautiful. They seemed to have no control over themselves as she sauntered past them out to the street. They continued staring, even after she had disappeared, until the sound of police sirens broke them out of their trances.
The senior officer knew that the heroes weren’t likely responsible for the alarm, but he questioned them briefly and was confused. The only thing the guys could agree upon was that the bank was robbed by a very attractive woman. Officer O’Reilly remarked after getting their contradictory descriptions of the thief, “I hope being superheroes comes with health benefits, because you two may need to see an eye doctor.
After the police let them go, Megawatt turned to Diamond and asked, “How could you not see the details of what she looked like? She was blonde with pale blue eyes and a matching jumpsuit.”
Diamond responded roughly, “Maybe your mask got in your eyes. She had long black hair, a green leotard, and brown eyes.”
They flew the rest of the way back to the bookstore in silence. When they arrived, they saw that Ruth Sexton had called in two of their teammates to discuss what had happened. Ruth started the conversation by saying, “I heard the entire incident over your communicators. So who’s correct about this mystery villain?”
Coldfire jumped in saying, “Megawatt, if I didn’t know better, I’d think you were describing me as the robber.”
Megawatt reddened under his mask as he realised she was correct.
Mariness was telling Diamond the same thing.
Ruth interrupted by saying, “Perhaps neither of you saw her clearly. Maybe she controlled your minds to make you see her the way you’d find most attractive.”
The four heroes stopped their squabbles at that observation.
Coldfire made a declaration. “Until this woman is captured, no all male teams on patrol.”
Megawatt reluctantly agreed.
The following night, Coldfire went on patrol with Megawatt. They heard Ruth over their communicators informing them that the museum had been broken into. The heroes knew that there was a rare manuscript on loan from the Smithsonian on display, and changed their flight towards the museum.
Upon landing, the pair moved quietly, following the signs to the exhibit. When they arrived, the lights were low, which was no problem for the blind Coldfire and her thermal-vision. In fact, her skill at identifying people based upon their unique heat signatures revealed the thief’s identity to her. In a shocked whisper she informed Megawatt, “She works at the college, Elizabeth Carlson.”
Megawatt stared through the dimly lit room, but still couldn’t make out the woman’s features. He responded, “Really?”
The woman moved into the light streaming in from a window and Megawatt, seeing the long haired blonde again, whispered back, “Not sure you’re right.”
Coldfire ignored him and challenged her. “Elizabeth, stop where you are. Return what you’ve stolen!”
“Sorry, young lady, no can do. I wish your teammate had brought along that hunkier guy like he did last night. Then I wouldn’t need to get violent. I could use my pheromone control to just let me walk right past them.”
She drew a small gun from behind her back and aimed it at Coldfire.
Coldfire didn’t hesitate. She fired a blast of heat at the gun, making it painful for the older woman. As Elizabeth groaned in pain, Megawatt shook free from her control and fired a stun level blast of electricity at her. The erstwhile supervillain crumpled to the ground as the police arrived.
Coldfire warned them, “Make sure you’re using oxygen tanks around her.”
The police were confused, but were accustomed to following the recommendations of the heroes.
Megawatt added, “Or keep her locked up away from any men.”
The next day, Mariness’s sister ran the story of the capture with the headline, ‘EVILABETH CAPTURED BY THE LIGHT FORCE’.
