“Go ahead...Where you gonna find a lawyer?”
The joke was on Lucifer when a lawyer, who before the return of Jesus, had tried several religious freedom cases entered the celestial courtroom to Satan’s disgust.
James Kent approached the rail that separated the courtroom from the raised Christians who served on the jury. His opening statement was brief, but blunt and truthful.
“My fellow believers, We are well versed in the crimes of the chief defendant and his demonic cohorts. I simply trust you to return a verdict that is true.”
Satan acting as his own attorney, rose indigently to his feet, hooves thudding on the floor despite the empirical nature of the room. “You people claim to give a truthful verdict, yet the prosecutor has asked for a guilty verdict before we present evidence. Where is the fairness?”
Kent waited until Satan sat done and called his first witness, Eve. After she was sworn in by swearing to tell the truth in God’s Name, Kent asked his first question.
“Eve, please remind this court of the defendants first act of evil.”
After Eve told her story about being tricked into sin by Satan, Lucifer swaggered towards the witness stand… arms crossed and stared down at the woman. “Now Eve, you must admit that I didn’t make you sin against God, true?”
She mumbled, “True.”
Having proved his point Satan stepped back away from Eve and announced to the bench, “No further questions.”
Kent called his second witness, Judas Iscariot. “Now, Judas, did the defendant convince you to betray the judge in this court?”
Judas looked away from the attorney and refused to answer verbally, simply nodding his head.
“Please speak up, Mr. Iscariot, you are not on trial here”
Judas murmured, “Yet.”
Kent responded, “Excuse me, sir?”
Judas said, “I don’t want to incriminate myself by answering your questions, Mr Kent.”
Jesus thundered, “Judas, I command you to answer the question!”
Judas looking abashed, stammered his affirmative response, “Y,,y...yes, Mr Kent I d… d...did b...b...betray Christ at S...S...Satan’s prompting.”
Satan rose to his hooves, shouting “Objection! The court is attempting to badger the witness!”
Christ quietly answered the defendant,” Overruled and furthermore additional outbursts during direct examination will have you and your co-defendants held in contempt.”
Satan resumed his seat, his face showing his belief that he had already lost. ‘Why,’ he wondered ’had he not challenged the selection of the jury’
Mr Kent called up two more witnesses whom Lucifer would have enjoyed cross-examining, the prophet called Mohammed and a famous atheist. Mohammed refused to swear in on God’s Holy Name, but only on a Koran Christ sentenced him to eternity in Hell for refusing to acknowledge God. Jesus called a sentence of contempt of court. The woman atheist refused to swear to tell the truth in God’s Name, saying in a loud voice, “I don’t accept this so-called court run my this person who claims to be God’s son, since there is no God.”
Kent knew that while he wouldn't get any testimony from either of these two witnesses, it did allow him to prove his point about Satan’s corrupting influence. They refused to acknowledge the holiness of God, clear proof of the Devil’s part in the sin of the world Christ had just returned to and which Scripture foretold that every knee would bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ was Lord.
Lucifer tried to put forward a defense, but Kent shredded every witness on cross-examination. Finally the case went to the jury for a verdict. Neither side expected a loss, Satan based on his corruption and Kent of the facts and truth of the testimony.
After a few hours the verdict was ready to be announced, James and Lucifer stood as the verdict was read out. The jury foreman, an Evangelical pastor from a presected church in the Arab world, read the jury’s decision in a deep booming voice.
“We find the defendant and his co-defendants guilty on all charges and specifications. And recommend that they be sentenced to the Lake of Fire for a period of no less than a thousand years.”
Christ brought the gavel down with the sound of thunder as He approved the jury’s recommendation. As Satan and his demons began to disappear in chains he had one final defiant cry, “I’ll be back to destroy your kingdom someday!”

Satan is confined to the bottomless pit for the millennium, and then he is loosed for a while to lead a rebellion before he is finally cast into the lake of fire for evermore. Other than that, you did an amazing job, my friend... Keep up the great work! Again, well done...
