in the innermost
chamber of my heart
lied a secret cupboard
Thinking no one would discover
soon I heard
a still small voice
Let me out
Let me out
the skeleton
in the cupboard
cried
Why are you so ashamed
I can’t let you out
I don’t want others to know
I’m an illegitimate child
You don’t live for others
Will you imprison me for life
If only you let me out
you’ll realise
the wonders of your salvation
your fear is unfounded
you’ll feel light, less burdened
no more paranoid
because you’ve exchanged
the demons of fear
for His peace
Yes, I’ve been pondering
all these years
Then I heard a knock
at my heart’s door
the words were the most gentle
Open the door My child
I want to eat
with you
to offer you My peace
and joy that the world
can’t give
I came to set the captives free
Now I recognise the voice
it’s the Prince of Peace
who lives in me
by His Holy Spirit
Truly He’s my Emanuel
what a timely gift
of peace and joy
for Christmas
as I usher
Christ to my life
