blarrrrre!!
while simultaneously a flash like lightning arced across the sky: then silence.
It was suddenly so eerily silent. Then I noticed the tick-tick-tick of the kitchen clock as the seconds marched by.
After my initial shock, I sprang into action. I tried to sound the alarm. I bounded upstairs to let my friends know, and then I went back downstairs to the bay window in the front of the house, then I did it all over again. Nothing. No one moved or made a sound. It was just ominous silence.
Wait--no one's home.
Revelation: They left me behind! Really? REALLY?
I paced the house, agitated that my good friends would leave me alone and not take me with them. But, what a second, they always took me everywhere with them! How could they do this to me?
"Unbelievable," I muttered to myself repeatedly. Then after about 12 times I thought, "Oh no, surely I sound growly and grouchy."
At that moment after all the stress I realized I was ravenous for a midnight snack.
I started to wolf-down the food they left for me but something told me to be patient, because my friends did not look like they were coming back for awhile.
Well, as it turned out, "awhile" turned into 24 hours, then it dragged on for days. Because I was locked in the house, I tried to conserve the food and water they graciously left for me.
As the hours went by, I became very lonesome and even depressed, probably because of the messes I was making. I slept most of the time, and even stopped running to the window at even the slightest sound.
Eventually I ran out of food, then water. I laid down to take my last nap, with one thought, this is it. As I closed my eyes, I heard someone trying to pry the back door open, but I was too weak to try to see who or what it was.
Crash!!
It was a woman, apparently searching for food. She pointed a pistol at me and I squinted at her, then I closed my eyes, expecting her to kill me. She saw my weakened state, and had mercy on me. "You poor thing. Let me find you somethin' to eat right quick."
She spared my life.
"My name is Marilyn. What's your name?" My new best friend reached and read the name etched into the name tag on my collar. "Oh, so your name is... Sasha. You are a precious Chihuahua, little girl. Well Sasha, I can see you are literally starvin' to death, so I will let you eat and drink some water. Don't get to eatin' too much now, you'll get sick."
Marilyn picked up a Bible my friends had left on the coffee table by the couch and started reading it to me, starting with the book of Revelation. Then, she continued every day, slowly reading Revelation to me every morning, noon and night.
It became a kind of a ritual.
I loved hearing her read to me. Her sing-song southern voice was soothing, and reminded me of my old friends. Then, about three weeks after she moved in with me, Marilyn started reading the final chapter of Revelation. When she got to the middle of the chapter, I started shaking as she read these words:
Blessed are those who wash their robes. They will be permitted to enter through the gates of the city and eat the fruit from the tree of life. Outside the city are the dogs-the sorcerers, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idol worshipers, and all who love to live a lie.
Revelation 22:14-15 New Living Translation (NLT)
"Oh, Sasha, you're so silly, my darling baby girl Chihuahua. John didn't mean dogs like you; He meant dogs like people who do don't obey the Word of God. Like me, I suppose." With that realization, Marilyn started to cry, then weep.
She repented of her sins.
Not long after that beautiful day, Marilyn and I were taken captive by the One World Police. They marched us to a place in the middle of town where they proceeded to make Marilyn renounce her belief in God. She refused and was beheaded. Desperate, I had to get out of there. During the commotion I bit my captor and ran with all my strength back home.
I plan to take one last nap here.
