Shattered into a thousand pieces, the clay shards of my broken heart lay at the feet of the Potter. In desperation, I reach heavenward; God takes my hand to lead me. “Rejoice in the Lord always,” He says.
How can I rejoice, when despair threatens to destroy me and darkness obscures my path? I can rejoice by the same faith of those who walked this road before.
Without knowing where God was leading him, Abraham left all that was familiar behind. Along his journey to the land of promise, he never staggered, but believed the word of the Lord. This perfect faith, this confidant obedience, serves as an example to me.
As Abraham walked by faith, one step at a time, I begin to sing by faith, one song at a time. Although words of praise are on my tongue, the spirit of praise is far from me. It is an uphill climb, but with the hope of that promised habitation, I remain steadfast. I will not turn back in the day of battle. I keep singing.
The morning gives way to the heat of the afternoon sun, and I am weary. I turn on the radio.
Glory, glory, hallelujah, He reigns
He reigns, He reigns
I am overjoyed by this simple revelation – He reigns. Our sovereign God sees all, knows all, and in a world that seems to be spinning out of control, He rules all. The pieces of my former heart, torn apart by doubt, are consumed by faith’s flame. The song continues.
Tremble at what they’ve just heard
‘Cause all the powers of darkness
Can’t drown out a single word
Every principality of darkness flees at His presence, as the Spirit of God inhabits my praise. The dungeon chains can no longer bind me. Hand in hand with Jesus, I break free, leaping from the promised mountaintop to soar on the breath of heaven. Riding the wings of praise, I enter His gates and worship at His throne. I know the love of God intensely at this moment, and I will never be the same again.
