Endemically speaking, I am a very shy person, but I wasn’t shy that crazy day.
Reading my Bible—as I always did—in the public park during my long lunch break,
Someone was offended, turned me in and I was arrested while screaming “Gimme a break!”
“Offended by someone quietly reading the Bible in the park? Have you all gone crazy?”
“Nevertheless ma’am, an ordinance was passed and we have to enforce it, don’t you see?”
“All right, I’m really upset now, and… I’m going to leave now—this is ridiculous.”
“Lady, I would not do that if I were you, because your rebellious action will force us.”
“Look, Officer, I respect and support you but this law is petty and stupid—goodbye.”
YELLOW ALERT. YELLOW ALERT. SECURITY BREACH IN SECTION 5.
Personally persecuted for Jesus, I never thought it could happen to me here in the USA:
Escaping from that police station was just the beginning of my afternoon that day;
Running to my car in the parking lot near where I worked, I slammed my Bible down.
Starting the car, I switched it to Drive, the tires squealed and I sped away out of town.
Escaping was pretty easy, I thought, stopping my car with a screech at a red light.
Clenching the wheel, something caught my attention in my peripheral vision to my right:
Uncertainty caused me to look down at my Bible now opened to Matthew, Chapter 5:
The words jumped out at me, God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right…
Escape was no longer an option; I felt Holy Spirit conviction and turned around,
Doubling back to the police station, I apologized and paid the fines with a frown.
