ALOFT: Where Jesus is.
A-PEEK: What the apostles took when they looked into the empty tomb.
AHOY MATE: A familiar greeting used by Jesus.
ANCHORS AWAY: What the spirit says when it leaves the body in death.
AWEIGH: Something Jesus is not. (He is THE weigh.)
BARNACLE: Barnabas’s dog.
BATTEN DOWN: Something believers need to do to make sure they are secure in the faith.
BON VOYAGE: What Christians can say when a mountain is cast into the sea.
BUOY: What Jesus was before he grew up.
BURDENED VESSEL: What we are before we give our sins to Jesus.
CAPSIZE: Various turban measurements for Aaron and his sons.
CAST OFF: What we are to do with our sins.
CHAFING GEAR: The weight and the sin that so easily ensnares us.
DEAD AHEAD: The road sign that directed mourners to the tomb of Lazarus.
DEAD RECKONING: The reminder that we are but dust.
DRAFT: The apostles commissioning.
FATHOM: Something mankind can’t imagine, like heaven.
FORE-AND-AFT: Before the time of Christ; After the time of Christ.
GIVE-WAY VESSEL: What we are called to be to yield to the plans of God.
HATCH: Something often done by Peter. To hatch an idea: “I’m going fishing.”
HELMSPERSON: Jesus, the One who steers the boat.
HIGH AND DRY: The Christian in the cleft of the Rock.
HITCH: Something the woman at the well should have done with the man she lived with.
HULL: What will be left of us when we die.
INTRACOASTAL WATERWAY: The Jordan River, where Jesus was baptized.
JOLLY-BOAT: The festive atmosphere when the disciples’ nets were full.
KEEL: To keel over dead. Examples: Ananias and Sapphira.
KNOCK-OFF: What the believer hears when the Lord calls him to glory.
KNOT: What Peter did to mend his nets.
LAND HO! The exclamation of a saint upon crossing the Jordan in death and seeing God’s celestial shore.
LAZARETTE: What Jesus would have said if Lazarus was a female: (“Come forth, Lazarette!”)
NAUTICAL: What a sinner is before repentance (Nauty).
NAVIGATION AID: The Bible, which helps the Christian safely traverse the seas of life.
NOCK: Behold, Jesus stands at the door and nocks.
NET TONNAGE: The anxious heart that weighs a man down.
NAVIGATION RULES: The Ten Commandments.
OUTBOARD: What Peter wished he had when he tired of rowing.
OAR: The choice people have between blessing oar cursing, life oar death.
OVERBOARD: A warning to Christians not to go overboard but to have moderation in all things.
PIER: What Mary Magdalene did when it was still dark and she looked into the tomb.
PILE: The action of placing precept upon precept, line upon line, here a little, there a little, and pretty soon you have a pile of God’s truth.
PLANING: What Jesus did when he moved over the top of water.
POOP DECK: Where Jesus and the disciples went when they were too tired to minister.
PRIVELEGED VESSEL: Christians who carry the life of Jesus within them.
QUILTING: What Lydia did in her spare time.
SATELLITE NAVIGATION: a form of navigation forbidden by God (astrology).
SHIP: Something the believer does with his eternal rewards; he ships them on ahead to heaven.
SLACK: An article of clothing made by Lydia.
SOLE: The immaterial part of man
SOUNDING: The stern rebuke the disciples got from the Lord when they couldn’t cast out a demon.
SOS: A command Jesus gives us. “Call to me, all who are heavy laden.” “Call to Me, and I will answer you.”
SQUALL: An argument that arose among the disciples about who was the greatest.
STANDING PART: The thing Christians need to do when they have done all else.
STOW: What Jesus did with his head cloths when he rose from the dead. (“Stowed and folded together in a place by itself.”).
TIDE: The detergent of choice by Lydia for her purple cloth.
TRAVELLER: A pilgrim just passing through.
UNDERWAY: Clothes worn next to the body and usually not seen. Sewn by Lydia.
UNDER BARE POLES: A vessel with no sails set. “An unbeliever is under bare poles in the storm of life.”
COAST GUARD: The great cloud of witnesses.
VHF (Very High Frequency): When God shouts to get our attention.
WAKE: What Jesus said to the sleeping daughter of the synagogue ruler.
WINDJAMMER: Someone who can stop the wind. “Peace, be still! Said Jesus.
YAWL: How Jesus would have talked if he was a Texan.
YELLOW ADMIRAL: How Peter looked in his rain slicker.
