ADD TO MY FAVORITES
With exclamation marks,
And illustrated every page
With all my fervid quirks—
I bent the rules of grammar
To match with my desires,
For what appeals to all my patrons
But all that I’ve acquired?
I sent my story to be published,
That I could win my fame,
And write a page in history
So all would know my name!
But oh, how quickly dreams are vanquished
And hopes abroad will sink—
The Editor returned my pages
Immersed in scarlet ink!
A life consumed for passion
Is not worth being sung!—
Are all the pages I have written
Worth nothing more than dung?
I stared with eyes that brimmed with tears
At the words that I selected—
It was too late to edit choices,
My life had been rejected…
But as I gazed at every error,
They began to disappear!
The scarlet ink was scouring each
Until the page was clear!
I wasted time on my empty novel,
But now I lift my pen
To write a story of the grace
Allowing me to write again!
