dreaming of a princess-mom.
The mother spent hers feeling
partially dead--her babe was gone.
Gone--given to parents who
could give what she could not.
Gone--memories they would have made.
Regrets--too many, but no one cared.
So many sleepless nights
had been shared separately
without the other’s knowledge--
their elusive rest was joined by a thread.
A thread frayed by the years
of emptiness, longing and wondering.
A thread spun from the hearts of young lovers
That became a tangled mess of hurts.
Bitter hurts that led to days, now years
of a battered self image.
What opportunities had her baby been awarded
at the price of her pain-filled decision.
A decision made from fear--
Barely able to meet her own needs
how would she meet the needs of
a helpless child--she was still that herself.
Her adult solitary life--proof
of the punishment inflicted on herself.
How much more could she endure
for the iniquity of that distant night.
The newborn, now grown, did an online search--
Technology and God partnered with her.
The page revealed a mother’s name, a birth date,
and fearless reaction made her choose.
The invitation expressed pureness in motive--
The aching mother faced a new fear
hemmed in hope for new beginnings.
What first words would break their silence?
Under the shady arm of a sturdy oak
a young woman’s eyes searched impatiently.
When her birth mother approached
they embraced, and love spoke for them.
