And it affects me deeply still;
It’s left me with a tendency
To avoid ever looking ill.
It relates to Grand-Aunt Mary
Who had nursing aspirations;
Though our illnesses would vary
She had cure-all medications.
Castor oil was the cure prescribed
For every stomach ache and pain;
A spoonful had to be imbibed—
All our protests were in vain.
If we dared to cough, sneeze or sniff
Or showed a hint of being sick,
We got castor oil in a jiff’;
To her, ‘it always did the trick.’
We found out young, the only way
To avoid Grand-Aunt’s spoon of dread
Was to act healthy every day
Even though you felt half dead!
She gave us lollies afterwards
To take away the bitter taste—
A bitter-sweet perverse reward—
As if the sweets were poison-laced!
To coughs and colds I’m now immune,
All because of castor oil;
Grand-aunt and her medicine spoon
Have me in permanent denial.
Now I have children of my own,
From time to time it makes me smile
To see how healthy they have grown
Without the ‘joys’ of castor oil!

It is the best thing to use if you have dry feet/heels. Makes them soft.
