(The Good, the Bad and the Mighty – 1 Samuel 25.)
Rich, important, mean and proud,
One who voiced opinions loud,
Ruler of a vast estate,
Property owner, riches great,
Unloving, hardest of all men,
Meet bad-tempered ‘Mr N’.
A joy, a beauty to the eyes,
Warm and loving, careful, wise,
Found by others to be good,
Approachable, she understood
The problems others faced each day.
Meet the Godly ’Mrs A’.
Hounded, chased, a fugitive,
Striving daily just to live.
God’s servant, struggling, tested, tried,
And forced to live on danger’s side.
Many followed faithfully
God’s Anointed Monarch, ‘D’.
Doors slammed, walls shook, the servants cowed
As N, stormed like a thunder-cloud.
Who was this upstart, ‘Monarch’ D
Expecting generosity?
Why should I give my hard-earned fare
To men who come from who knows where?
I owe him nothing, I’ll not give
A crumb to this rough fugitive.
Deeply insulted, mortified,
D took four hundred at his side
And clad with swords planned to avenge
And get their own back in revenge.
Their previous kindness, help and grace
Had been flung back into their face.
Blood-shed and slaughter beckoning,
It was a day of reckoning.
The servants heard the news that day
And frightened rushed to Mrs A
To tell her the alarming news
Resulting from their master’s views.
Acting quickly with great vision
She supplied ample provision.
Wise, courageous, brave, she dared
To act in faith, and lives were spared.
The road that Mrs A had trod
Restored D’s faith and trust in God.
Enabling him to see that day
Judgement is God’s, He does repay.
And as we leave in His dear hands
Our actions and our future plans,
He clearly lights and leads and guides
Meeting each need, His help provides.
N’s wrong fell down upon his head
And within days, he was found dead.
And A, leaving a house of strife
Was free then to become D’s wife.
She teaches us - oh what a lesson:
Have faith in God and be a blessing,
Whether good or bad we face,
Trust in His mercy, love and grace.

I kept puzzling over the letter names, then, I figured it out… it's David, Abigail, and Nabal, right? (I should have read 1 Sam 25, first :) ) I KNEW there was some significance to the letters, Mr. N.. Mrs. A… and Monarch D… This is soooo creative. LOVE it!!!
Somehow the ending just told me who the characters were, and it just made me love the story. And once I figured out their full names, I understood the events the story was describing. I personally like to think through the storied I watch and read, so I loved figuring out at the end who the MCs were. Loved the style you wrote in. A really good read!
