Topic: The Kingdom of God (03/12/09)
Academia no longer believes in an absolute God so talking about the Kingdom of God has been reduced to irrelevancy in our educational system. The Kingdom of God is built on two basic foundational truths, creation and the resurrection. Darwinism, Relativism, (All truth is relative, what’s true for you is not true for me.) Pluralism, (There are many paths but they all lead to the top of the mountain.) And humanism have been chipping away at these foundational truths until they have become merely another world view opinion.

In a recent conversation I had with a college graduate our conversation turned to Christianity.

He said, “You Christians are very narrow minded to think that your opinion about truth is the only one that really matters. All religions are practicing what they sincerely believe to be true, They all have a holy book, and they all say their way is the true way, will you Christians damn all those who don’t believe in Christ to hell. What makes you think your way is the only true way?”

My response was to answer his question with a question of my own. “Islam states that Christ did not die on the cross and was not resurrected, Christianity states that Christ died on the cross and was resurrected. Would you agree that if Islam is true Christianity must be false but if Christianity is true than Islam and all other religions that oppose Christianity must be false?”

He continued, “So your saying Christianity is the only way? Why can’t you Christians let others believe what they feel in their heart is true? You are not very tolerant of others!”

I put my hand on his shoulder and we sat down. “When I was young I believed in the tooth fairy and I had proof that the fairy was real. I had placed my tooth under my pillow before I went to sleep and the very next morning my tooth was gone and there in it’s place was a brand new shiny dime. Now I truly believed in the tooth fairy but just because we have many beliefs doesn’t make those beliefs true. I respect the beliefs of others but truth is truth whether I like it or not.”

Christ says that He is the way, the truth, and the light. If what Christ says is true then all those who deny Christ must be false in spite of their sincere beliefs. I would be happy to explore some more of your questions with you in depth any time you would like. He thought hard about getting together with me but in the end he walked away.

We are living in challenging days. Gods Kingdom is under attack. We must stand ready to defend truth and give an answer to all those who question our beliefs. We cannot stand ideally by and let God’s absolute truth die at the hands of Rationalism. Paul states in 2 Peter 3:15. “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.

Where do we start to defend our Theistic world view? We must start at the foundation. Genesis 1:1. “In the beginning God created.” If there is no beginning there is no cause, if there is no cause there is no God, If there is no God there is no morals, and if there is no morals everyone is free to practice or indulge in whatever he or she believes to be true.


There is a whole generation of students marching out of our educational system without any knowledge of life’s essential purpose–God has created us, died for us, and will soon return for us. We cannot bury the truth in evolution or skepticism. If our society fails to come to terms with our creator it will be left to struggle on an ever darkening plain which gradually ends without meaning or purpose.

The three philosophical views should all be cap'd or not and all defined or not and pluralism's definition seems to be the definition of inclusivism and not pluralism.
Watch for the possessives.
Rationalism goes undefined and yet a debate about real truth via logical arguments seems to be what is being done by the author, so how can rationalism be what the author thinks is being used to kill absolute truth?
Regardless of whether morals exist, people are in fact free (at least temporarily) to indulge in what they believe to be true (or false).
I finished the piece not knowing what the two foundational truths are.

Quick disclaimer: I edit philosophical papers, write them, think them, read tons of PHL books, and wanted to give you feedback I'd give others or have received myself. All this said, it was very refreshing to see an article like this posted in the Challenge. I enjoyed reading it. Papers like this, unfortunately with a 750 word limit, often require a good deal of clarification within them or a hope the reader just follows them for flow or knowledge. It's a tough balance to find.
