Picnic tables strewn with food, games are full of fun
Enveloped in Aunt Bertha’s bosom, lipstick on my cheek
Laughter’s reminiscence sweet giving us a peek
Cousins we have never met, tall tales do they tell
Horseshoe throwing, children tossing pennies down a well
Distant, pleasant memories so plainly I recall
These are things that I remember when I was quite small
Baking, wrapping, packing, getting children clean and ready
Trying to keep all organized and not forget Jon’s “teddy”
Bottles, pacifier and diapers…what am I forgetting?
Packed everything except the sink, to unpack I’m regretting!
Passing pictures, comparing notes, baby lost a tooth
Catching up on all the news…so sorry about Aunt Ruth
Juggling children while trying to eat…where is Daddy now?
It’s his turn to watch the kids, ‘cause I’m having a cow!
Then comes the day if I could hear all the things they’d say
“Remember how it used to be?” as Mom would always pray
And packed us up and fed us well, laugh and joke and sigh
Those were such good ol’ days that quickly passed us by
I can just see Momma talking with a twinkle in her eye
Remembering her noodle salad and her famous pecan pie
She would have loved a day like this, a gathering of the kin
I wish that we could turn back time to the way that it had been
Our lives are such a little time, for we are just a vapor
Gone too quickly is our youth so we must surely savor
All the ones we love and cherish with fondest memories
When I am remembered, Lord, I pray my memories please!
