Watching the one called Rabbi remove a towel from his waist, exposing himself to all in the room, I cannot believe this.
Looking around for a way to leave quickly, Why did I have to sit right in the middle of this group? What’s he doing? Washing our feet!
Moving to the next person to begin washing, “No, Lord, you must not wash my feet.”
You’re right Peter. Now, he’s a leader. We’re the only two with swords. And I’ve seen him use his. I’m right behind you on this one.
This Rabbi’s made some pretty bad moves: no one touches a leper and he even dined with the dregs of society. He says he wants his kingdom made up of people who think like children? And to love your enemies! I’d love them alright, love them all dead! With this attitude the Roman empire will last forever. Now’s the time to call a halt to all this garbage!
“Peter, if you do not let Me wash your feet you can have no part of Me.”
Let him know Peter, let him know! We’re out of here!
“Not only my feet, Lord, but also my hands and head.”
What? I can’t believe it! Peter, what’s wrong with you? Well, that’s it. This group is nothing but a bunch of losers. I’m glad I made a deal with the chief priest after Lazarus’ sister Mary wasted that expensive perfume on “our leader’s” head. It would take me a year to earn enough money to buy perfume of that quality. Oh, “She did it for my burial” and “What she has done will be spoken about around the world.” You bet it will! There’s going to be a change in leadership, I’ll see to it.
Me next! Judas diverts his eyes, everyone’s looking at him. Glancing away he feels a foot being lifted. Yes, these are carpenter’s hands, rough and strong. But they are the gentlest hands I have ever felt.
Why aren’t I embarrassed?
Finished drying, Jesus slowly looks up.
He has tears in his eyes. Why tears? And those eyes, they seem to always look right into me. Why does he look at me like that? Stop staring at me! Quit!
Looking back down, Jesus pauses. Silence. Are his shoulders quivering? Jesus stands and moves on.
Pondering what’s just happened; I’ve seen those tears before, so many times. He seems to be always crying over something, reminding him of what he had been thinking about, Peter won’t cry. Now, he’s a man. You won’t see him crying, ever! Peter, why don’t you say something? You’re a take-charge person, do something!
First chance I have, I’m getting out of here, and with the money bag. I’ll need it when I see the chief priest tonight. I might as well get something out of all of this.
