"Why do I feel compelled to keep talking about this," she thought. "Maybe I hope that I will finally hear something that provides me with the answer, any answer!"
Sara had mentioned to her mother that she was afraid that divorce may be the only answer for her problematic marriage, however, that was the last thing she ever wanted to happen. The real truth was that she could no longer endure the physical and emotional abuse.
"I am afraid to get a divorce," Sara confessed to her mother.
"Why does divorce bring fear to your mind, Sara?"
"Divorce is a bad thing, no good could come of it," she responded.
Her mother answered her with a word of wisdom upon which Sara pondered for awhile: "Every decision you ever make will have both positive and negative aspects to it."
Sara, being her mother's "Why" child since she had begun to speak, challenged her mother's statement. "Every choice I have ever made, or will ever make has both upsides and downsides?"
"Then how about this one," she asked, "What about receiving Jesus as my Savior, does that have a downside?"
The answer returned to Sara was with absolute confidence, "That too has pros and cons."
"Gosh," said Sara, "What's the downside?"
The answer came immediately, "It is true that the downsides in this case are few Little Daughter, but the downsides are there: after receiving Jesus as your Savior you may no longer do as you please, you must do as Jesus directs you to do whether or not you find it be particularly fun."
"The positive side for receiving Jesus as your Savior and taking His gift of life to be forever with Him, of enjoying His presence with you while you live, of having His constant protection and provision for you do far outweigh the negatives, but the downside is there; choosing Jesus as your Savior is a good choice."
Sara's Mom continued to speak; "Now about your marriage, if you decide for a divorce you will have many negatives, but the same choice also provides you many positives, one of them would be a mother who would be relieved that her daughter was no longer in an abusive relationship."
"If you chose to remain married then you will have your life remain much the same as it is now; if, however you chose divorce you will have many challenges to confront and adjustments to make. The decision is yours to make according to what you feel you can handle best."
Thinking about the words of wisdom from her mother Sara wrote a little ditty as she was apt to do when encapsulating any idea:
Two Wagons of Will I've got
one named "I Will"
and one named "I Will Not.
It's up to me to decide
in which Wagon of Will
my will will ride;
whatever I choose
has it pro and con side.
