For fifteen years, I got to watch God’s work in her life. Through the best of times and the worst of times, He was working on her behalf and directing her steps. From the outside looking in, He was holding her very life in His loving hand. From the inside and her perspective, it was difficult to see in many situations where He was. Now that she’s in heaven, she no longer knows in part, but the whole.
While we are here, I hope we understand God’s work throughout our lives.
Before Creation, God had a plan, and set things in motion outside the constructs of time to work for our good, which is His will.
Someday we’ll see in full that the Lord works outside of time and in time. Before we were formed, He knew us.
Outside of time, He mapped out our inmost parts with His creative energy and love, and at the same time created things to be in our path at just the right moment for us to see, hear, and experience. All of this to point us to Him. In time, He answers our prayers, aligns and realigns things that come our way, and is constantly in a state of maturing us and bringing us back to Him.
“Your eyes saw my unformed body, all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” Psalm 139:16, NIV.
I hope we understand how every day is as important as the first day of our lives. Our death day is as orchestrated as our birthday. He works all things for our good.
When we get to heaven, we might get to look back over our lives and see that He was always busy working things out for us, carefully and closely watching every millisecond and lovingly directing our steps to come back to Him in the end.
Oh Lord, haste the day when our faith shall be sight!
But until that day, may our faith be strengthened with all might by His Spirit in our inner man. May we see, even in part now, that He is working through time and space to show us His infinite love. May we consider our steps carefully and align our will to His, which is always pleasing and perfect. And may our gratitude be lifted up to our God, who is always busy working until the day we die to bring us into His rest.
