Topic: Write for the HUMOR Genre (10/09/14)
The two sisters had a fun day planned. They were fortunate to live close enough for frequent visits and leisurely shopping trips, especially since they had both been widows for a number of years.

Their outings could mean checking out the sales at the local department store or maybe strolling through the hobby store for more crochet thread and patterns. The Christian book store was always a favorite place to enjoy reading through Bible verses and inspired thoughts printed in beautiful greeting cards.

On this particular day, they may have enjoyed a favorite meal from the restaurant's hot buffet line before embarking on an afternoon of window shopping and seeking out gift ideas for the approaching Christmas season. The word "Toy" must have caught their eye, and they may have agreed it was a new place in town. The thoughts of a different shopping experience must have been strong enough to lure them into a detour from their normal route.

The clerks could have looked up from their afternoon routine of restocking and straightening the store shelves. Their eyes may have widened slightly when they saw the two ladies, obviously from the Golden Girls era, step inside the door. The bright sunlit day undoubtedly meant that cataract-altered eyes would need a few moments to adjust to the dim lighting inside.

I can see the younger women quietly return to their chores while stealing sideways glances at the unfamiliar faces of the women who had started walking down the first aisle. Their usual chatter surely slowed and ceased with each step.

I can just imagine the occasional, "Oh, my!" coming from the perplexed duo, or maybe whispers of, "Well, I never ... what exactly IS that?" After all, my mother and my aunt had survived life's daily challenges of growing up during The Great Depression. Their modest and financially conservative lifestyles had followed them into the Twenty-First Century.

These two strong, surviving Proverbs women had met their match. Neither woman could had been left speechless many times in their nine plus decades on this earth, but this surely must have been one such occasion.

I just recently learned of this afternoon escapade that must have scarred those sweet, innocent eyes for life. Unfortunately, since they are both now in Heaven, we are left with many unanswered questions. We can only guess at those sights for their sore eyes and, admittedly, enjoy the vision of my mother and my aunt's expressions as they shuffled back into the sunlight while silently praying that no one they knew had seen them walk into Christy's Toy Box.

And the clerks? What I wouldn't give to hear this detailed Toy Story from them!

In the third paragraph I would have it say, 'On this particular day they might have' (instead of may have). Also where it says: 'The clerks could have looked up from their afternoon routine...' I would have it say 'The clerks might have looked up from their afternoon routine,' - this is just a suggestion.
Overall funny story, and quite a believable mistake for two unbeknownst grandmother's.

This is a cute story. I could figure out what kind of store it was but you made it too regional. I've never heard of Christy's Toy Box. (It wouldn't work if you didn't keep the Toy Box in the name though so I don't know how you could fix that.) Aren't I helpful? :) I Googled it to make sure I was right with what I thought. I could just see those two in there. How funny! :)
