Topic: Light at the End of the Tunnel (01/23/14)
The Lord looked upon the earth and saw mankind had fallen into total decay and depravity.

However, the Lord saw Noah, one man, that still walked with Him. The Lord said, "I'll go to him to preserve my creation."

The Lord said, "Noah, you are to build an ark 475 feet in length, 75 feet wide, and 50 feet high from gopher wood and seal it with pitch and put a window in it. Take two of every living thing, male and female, into the ark along with food for all."

Noah thought, "What is an ark?" "I don't know what this thing is but I will do as God said."

People stopped and stared at the structure. Some laughed, others looked with confusion. "Poor old Noah, he's lost it!"

Noah cut and measured the wood until the ark was finished. People continued to laugh as the animals followed Noah and his family into the ark, two by two. The Lord closed the door. In seven days, rain came. Slowly, the drops fell, then more fell rapidly. Pitter, pat, pitter, pat, thump, thump, thump. The people grew nervous. Some thought, "Could Noah know something we don't know?"

Some of the people ran to their homes for shelter but soon the rain raced up to the windows and over the housetops. The people were swept away with all other forms of life.

The ark floated above the water. For forty days and forty nights, the water poured upon the earth. Noah and his family rode the waves along with all the other creatures.

Finally, Noah released a dove and she never returned. He opened the door to a dry earth. After forty days and forty nights of darkness and rain, Noah's eyes beheld a beautiful rainbow. This was God's promise that the world would never be destroyed again by a flood. God's light ended the darkness and gave hope to mankind.

You might consider writing curriculum for your church's Sunday School department or Junior church. One suggestion is that children might not relate to the idea of people "falling into decay", but overall the lesson is well-written and conveys the biblical account in an easy to follow format.

I love the story of Noah.
Since it's a familiar story, try to find a creative approach to retelling it. Maybe you could use a different point of view or focus on one character.
This would be a great children's story.
