“Hi Gramps, how are you today? I hope I’m not interrupting anything important.”
“Adam, my boy, come right on in, you know you are welcome any time. Anything you are interrupting can wait. Nothing is more important than you are. You are my favorite grandson.”
“Gramps, I’m your only grandson.”
“Aw yes, but you are still my favorite and I love you. Never forget that.”
“I know, Grandpa. I won’t forget, but I . . . I have something to tell you.”
“Come on over here to my favorite spot in front of the big windows and tell me all about it. You know you can tell me anything.”
“Wow, Grandpa, from here you can see nearly all your land. It is expansive and beautiful.”
“And it will all be yours someday.”
“About that, Grandpa, I have something to tell you. You know my girlfriend Evie, well she and I have been talking and I think I want to drop out of school for a year or so to explore the world.”
Taking a big breath, Grandpa says, “Where did you get that idea?”
“Well, you know that I’ve never seen anything outside of your land. Evie was talking to the gardener and he told her about a lot of beautiful places that we have not seen. I think I would like delay school to travel and experience other things.”
“You would be a dropout?”
“I . . . I guess you could call it that.”
“Adam, you do know that I would like the privilege of taking you to all those places, but after you have finished your schooling. You really need an education before you tackle unknown places. It is just safer.”
“I . . . I don’t know, we really didn’t want to wait.”
“Further, the danger is that if you do not follow wisdom, that act of rebellion could be passed on to your children and to their children. It would affect so many – your whole lineage. Remember, you are a first-born and as such, you have a responsibility.”
“Yeah, Grandpa, I know, I’ve heard it all my life. But Evie and I, we want to do our own thing.”
“But, son . . . .”
“See ya later, Grandpa, gotta go. Evie’s waiting for me.”
“But . . . but . . . .” A great disappointment strikes Grandpa’s heart. He calls his secretary. “Angie, call Jessie for me please, ask him to come to my office as soon as he can.”
“Yes, sir.”

“Dad, what is it? I came as soon as I could. Is anything wrong?”
“Jessie, Adam came to see me today and told me that he wants to drop out of school to travel and see the world with Evie.”
“Where is he?”
“He’s already gone.”
“He wants to be a dropout? It’s that gardener, isn’t it? I’ve seen him skulking around Evie, but I thought she knew better than to listen to him.”
“She did know better, she just chose to listen, and now . . . .”
“Now they will have to pay. I cannot think of a worse thing than to follow that devil.”
“You know that our plans for Adam and Evie and their entire lineage will be destroyed, and they will all have to suffer the results of that bad decision.
“Can they ever come back, Dad? Can they ever recover what they will lose?”
“Yes, that can happen, but only with repentance, and a penalty to be paid. They will not be able to come back with the sin of the world in their lives. You know what that old gardener has planned for them. He doesn’t care about them – he hates us all. He only wants to destroy everything we have for them and take over this land. Since we fired him for inciting an uprising, he has only had destruction on his mind.”
“Dad . . . how can they be rescued? What will it cost?”
“Everything. It will take the most precious thing I have – you, son. You will have to go out into that world and find them. You will have to stand in their place and pay for their sin.”
Jessie stands before his dad with tears in his eyes. “I love them so -- I will do it, Dad, I will pay the price for them.”
