Muse of Mine

This writing class should be fun, the first challenge a short romance piece. I can do this not problem! Well just in case… Lord, help me with this challenge just incase I need it, amen.

“Once upon a time…”

What on earth do you think your doing starting a story with ‘once upon a time’ you’re slicing your own throat before you even get started!

I must be going crazy, I’m hearing things!

Oh no your not honey! I’m here to help you, you prayed for help and I am here.

But who are you?

I’m Theoroy, your muse, and I am hear to help you and from what I can see, you need it honey.

Theoroy, (snicker) who named you?

My great grandmother, and it a combination of family names so don’t make fun of it or you’ll be sure to fail your writing assignment if you know what I mean!

Ok, Ok, Theoroy, I’ll try and get serious here.

All right then try another beginning now.

“It was a dark and stormy night…”

STOP! OW!!! What are you trying to do get us both shoved six feet under before we are even half way done.

Well no, but I’ve never done anything like this before, writing something romantic, it’s just not me.

Oh, I see the problem, you’ve never been romanced, let’s see if I can get you a bit of inspiration here.

Theoroy, how did you do that, I love yellow roses! Oh the candles and the chocolates…. mmmm… my favorite. And the music, I’d call that baby making music.

So honey, are you starting to feel the romance? Let it sink in and then give this thing another try.

“ As the light from the fire kissed me with warmth and the ocean breeze swirled around me beckoning me to dance we caught each others eyes with an intensity challenging the heat of the beach fire….

Now you got it honey, it’s amazing what a few flowers, candles and a bit of chocolate can do! Let us dance on that keyboard, well try a little salsa and a tango or two!! Ow!!!

A couple of weeks later…

Theoroy, Theoroy, are you anywhere to be found? We did it, We did it! We got and A+ on that paper, the instructor said it was so steamy without being indecent! Theoroy, did you hear me?

Yes honey, you did a great job, all I did was a bit of inspiration and a smooth tango with your fingers on that keyboard. And you tango so well!

I enjoyed reading this, but you did have a few grammatical issues. Still, I think it was a fun twist on the topic.

It's so refreshing to read a lighthearted piece!

A few tweaks: be careful of spelling ('in case' is two words, and you were inconsistent with 'you're')--think about using italics for every other speaker to more easily distinguish them.

I've started a class in the FaithWriters forums for Beginner and Intermediate writers. I'd love to see you there--look for "Jan's Writing Basics".
