The sin that is spoke about here is the sin of omission which for those that don't understand, it is something neglected or left undone. Apathy toward or neglect of duty.
The act of omitting. The state of being omitted is when one knows the right thing to do but avoids doing it.
Our relationship with God is not only one of being aware of what evil we do, but also being aware of the good we don't do. The good things we are called to do are not to be done only when it is convenient for us, but at all times. Just as we are called to be constantly aware of temptations and sin in our lives, we are also called to pursue the fruits of the spirit.

The sin of omission is just as harmful to our spiritual well being as the sins we know not to do.
It isn't the thing you do dear,
It's the thing you leave undone.
The tender word forgotten,
The letter you did not write,
The flowers you did not send.
The stone you might have lifted
Out of a brother's way;
The bit of heartsome counsel
You were hurried too much to say.
The loving touch of the hand.
Which you had no time nor thought for
With troubles of your own.
For life is all to short,
And sorrow is all too great,
To suffer our slow compassion
That tarries until too late.
remember it isn't the things you do,
It's the thing you leave undone.
I hope this is the message that is being conveyed here.
God bless

Amen!
It seems to me that you realized, in the midst of your heart crisit, that God wanted control of your heart-of-hearts, not some Pharisee-like behavior. (Mt. 5:20) A very strong message.
