As they came into view, my heart nearly stopped. There, stood a magnificent steed. His muscles trembled from the exertion of their ride. Long shaky breaths flared his nostrils. Eyes wide with excitement searched his surroundings. The whiteness of the horse enhanced the sky blue robe of the rider.
The rider sat so stately, princely even, with power oozing control over the reins. Casting glances, his eyes searched for me intently. His single purpose evident in the set of his jaw, he urged the horse forward.
Closer they came, stopping near. Moments came and went. Time had no meaning. We gazed at one another, lost to our surroundings. My heart yearned for him, as did his for me.
He leaned forward and reached out his hand. His fingers held a single bloomed rose, the color of crimson. To take the gift meant everything or nothing at all.
My shallow breaths threatened to end. I forgot all as I lifted my hand to take the flower.
Suddenly, I felt a tap on my shoulder. As I swung around, the living room came back into focus.
There stood my love of this life, a shadowy vision of Who is yet to come, bearing a piece of folded paper cut into a heart.
“You know how I hate to buy cards…”
I took the offered paper and opened it, as I have for thirty-three other years. Written in pen with hearts drawn, scrawled the words Happy Valentine’s Day and I love you!
With just a hint of the Pure romance, I leaned forward for the kiss and hug. The arms that encircled me, copies of heaven to come, full of promise.
Some day this love will ride with me at His side, complete once again in the garden. And I, I shall know True Love face to face.
