Ashamed that I had tasted sin,
My eyes implore for mercy,
But fallen pride gives blame to Eve—
The consequences run their course,
I’ll never more see Eden’s light;
And now stand fences in the way
Where once before the way was clear—
We now feel pain, as death approaches,
And now we toil just to survive!
But worse, the stain of sins we’ve done
Make me recoil from my Creator—
But in our shame He gave us mercy,
And sewed us hides to cover guilt,
We hold the blame for spoiling all,
But deep inside there springs a hope:
These clothes He gave us are a sign
That He will cover all our sins—
His blood will save us from our pride,
His boundless love give life again;
For since before we fell in sin,
He’s been preparing robes of white;
His death did more than cover us,
It lets us wear His righteousness!
