What can you say about a doctor’s character when he has gone above and beyond the call of duty with your child’s care and your family? I am about to tell you about a doctor that has done just that! Dr Larry E. White who is a child neurologist, with the Children Hospital of Kings Daughters, in Norfolk, Va. is that very special person. We had the pleasure of meeting Dr White while in not so pleasant situation when our oldest daughter Cyndy was having bout of seizures.
Over the last eighteen years, he has not just been a doctor but also has become a very close friend to my family. There is nothing that he would not do for us. I remember when we first met him, when he came in the hospital room he had an exceptional, meek personality about himself. His semblance had a way of putting you at ease when he would walk into the room. He had a peaceful caring sprit, which is not often seen in doctors. Doctors usually do not show their tender side to their patients. He had a heart of gold. His heart would melt when it came to his patients.
We have observed numerous of times while in his office he will lend a helping hand to the parents of his patients. I have also witness this help first hand when one time he came down to the car and helped me bring the six children into the office. Now how many doctors do you know that will help bring the children in from the car? He is the only doctor I have had that actually would come out to the car to help me bring in the six children. Most doctors do not have the time to be of assistance to their patients families with their large case load. It is very difficult to see the patients and help them do other things. He has found a way to be of assistance and see his patients.
When it comes to taking care of his patients, he loves each one of them for who they are. He could care less what the back ground was with his patients. He loves each and every one. He would find something unique about each one in his care and help bring that particular characteristic out in the child. He is determined to help his sick charges feel better with the medications that he gives them, to help control their ailments. If the child has not been doing to well he will call the parent during the week not waiting for the parents to call him to tell how the child has been doing. He would worry about that child to the point of losing sleep over them.
There have been times, when he has been of assistances to me, when it has comes to problems in the family. He is not afraid to stand up for what is right or caring what others will think of him for standing up for the truth. He offers his shoulder at a time when comfort is much needed. He can also be your number one cheerleader, when you need that extra support.
He has been blessed with the special gift of mercy, and a genuine server’s heart. He can actually feel his patient’s pain. There were times I knew his heart ached when I would have seen tears in his eyes when it came to my daughter’s health. Many will say that you will often find that he has lost sleep over your child or even their parents when things are just not going right with the child’s medical condition. He carries his burdens close to his heart and prays for each and every one of his patients daily and maybe more when the child is sick. Many times he will not let on that he is worried about the child but if you look into his eyes you can tell that something is an amiss.
