In ancient times, an Acacia raddiana tree stood humbly, but tenaciously, in the desert of Sinai. It had taken many, many years to reach its full growth. Its slanted, flat top with its trunk forks near to the ground displayed twisting branches that were covered with very small gray hairy leaves, which helped conserve water. Boasting, it displayed clusters of creamy white flowers and spiral pod fruit. Such beauty was not expected or typical in such a dry and desolate place. For this reason, the Acacia tree was in its glory.
However, although it's beauty was impressive, its ultimate purpose was still forthcoming. For not only was its beauty found on the outside, but also in the inside. First, because of its slow growth, its wood was hard and dense and therefore could defy decay.. Secondly, beneath its bark lay its heartwood, which when polished, shone a beautifully dark red-brown.
Thus, it was chosen and masterfully carved into a special and mysterious door. Mysterious, not because the door is more ancient than any other door (thus, becoming the Ancient Door), but because unlike other doors, its providential design only allows (no matter which way it's opened), for "one" entrance. That entrance is IN.
And, yet even more mysterious is the fact that although there are door knobs on both sides of the Ancient Door, its pure gold door knocker is found on the INSIDE of the door, instead of the outside of the door.
Mysteries of the Ancient Door have been unfolding for thousands of years. For instance, there stands the Doorman who is on the inside of the Ancient Door, and he continually is knocking, knocking, knocking. to those who are on the outside of the door. (Of course, with other doors people stand on the outside knocking not the inside.)
There the Doorman waits patiently as he calls out to those on the other side, "Listen! I stand at the door and knock; if any hear my voice and open the door, I will come IN to their house and eat with them, and they will eat with me."*
Another mystery is that of those who are on the outside knocking so that when they ask, they will receive, when they seek, they will find, and when they knock, the Ancient Door will be opened to them so that they may come IN.**
Today the Ancient Door continues in its mysteries. For the Doorman continues to open it to all who would like to come IN. Have you entered IN?
