The joy I feel each day,
Starts as a prickling on my skin;
When I lift my voice in song,
Or when I kneel by my bed to pray
Every laugh and all my tears,
Every word I speak out loud;
How I view the world around me;
That “still small voice” within my ears
With outstretched, praise-filled hands,
Every fiber of my being suspended;
Enveloped in the Spirit’s love,
All my attention You command
My prayers reveal the depth of Your love,
To an ordinary person such as I;
For Jesus’ blood and bone paved the way,
To bridge the chasm from above
Memories of my life before,
At the mercy of this world;
Leaves my mind unsettled,
The anxiety I can’t ignore
Then I remember the “treasure” of grace,
Within this unworthy jar of clay;
Your hand reaches deep, my anguish to find,
And peace is left in its space
Into Your loving arms I’ve run,
For many long years now;
You continue to keep me safe and sane,
As I follow the example of the Son
There’s no need to look to the sky you see,
To send God my praise or my pain;
For my earthly temple was renamed “God’s Place”,
And the Lord dwells here close to me!
