“I’ll try the neighbourhood.” my husband said. He returned minutes later without finding anyone at home. After about thirty minutes the police turned up and called the breakdown service who then transported us to the nearest car repair shop. We left the car with them.
Thankfully and quite surprisingly, the car repair shop was next to a car rental. We were able to rent a car and we went back into town. The next day was Sunday so we got dressed and went looking for a church. On the ground floor of the hotel we heard people singing, so we followed the sound to a room with about 30 people who were having Church.
Surprised but friendly faces greeted us warmly. So we went to church and we met very friendly Caribbean people who were praising God. At the end of the service, the pastor and his wife invited us to his home and gave us lunch. A mechanic at the church went to see our car and tried to fix it but couldn't.
On Monday we got into the rental car and went to see the owner of the garage He told us it would cost us $3,000 because there was something seriously wrong.
Our worst fear was realised. Yes, the engine of the car needed to be rebuilt. Thankfully we had just received a tax refund so we used every penny of it. We were thankful that the car overheated close to an exit and that the police came quite incidentally, and that on our way to the car shop in the breakdown van, I had seen a hotel which happened to have the church meeting on its ground floor.
On reflection what happened to our car turned out well. We made some new friends that gave us lunch that day and showed so much of Christ’s love that we felt great peace throughout the experience. My husband drove the rental car home and the following week we returned the rental and picked up our car which we still have today.
Breaking down on a highway was not fun but the Lord was with us. Accidents do happen. Despite our preparation, the car broke down but no one was hurt and we made it home safely. The lesson I learnt was always to travel with a cell phone and that God did and does look after his children.

Good story, well written.
In life, I don't think there are any coincidences but a God who carefully looks after his people.
