But will be wed to none for a song
The whole world is free to complain
Still I find there’s much I’ll gain
If I can but wait for that one man
Who loves me like only Jesus can.
I promise I will soon marry
If I find a man that can carry
My life, my dreams, and hopes in love
Exactly like Jesus, so he must prove
I’m not asking for too much am I?
Just for my husband to be like Christ.
Let me tell you what I mean
You need not go too far to glean.
This dear man, my husband-to-be
Must be willing to die for me
Work at my beauty within and without
Smooth out my wrinkles with never a pout
Till every spot, blemish – any such thing
Is fought to the finish and not to be seen.
If any man (in Christ) can do this for me
My lord and my love he ever will be
This I know agrees with God’s will
A husband like Christ, that’s all I ask for.
That is not all, there’s a bit more
Our home must never lack a store
Of food and drink enough to feed
A multitude should there be need
Yet husband dear must understand
That serving tables I can’t stand
I prefer to learn the Word by heart
‘My wife has chosen the better part,’
Is the least I want to hear from him
Even if he has to cook and clean
You go dearest! Don’t surpass Jesus
Just be like Him, and I’ll be glad!
Will I help pay the bills? You ask
That should not be a tedious task
My Jesus knew the fish with gold
So must my man without being told.
I’m sure by now you get the pic
The life of Jesus makes me tick
You can’t blame me if I desire
Not just desire, indeed require
That special guy, one of a kind
And search I will until I find
A man like Jesus, nothing less
Wish me the best, I’ll surely need it!
Well she waited and tarried
The great beauty called Carrie
For a man like her Saviour
With just the right behaviour
From twenty to thirty, and forty to fifty
Not one to be drifty
She stood firm and unruffled
Through life’s hustles and bustles
Then along came sixty and seventy
But none came with Christ’s specialty
So off to Jesus she went to be
Happy at last her matchless Man to see!
