“Aiee!” That was the first word out of the guard’s mouth. The last thing he expected was a robot over fifty tons landing in a yard of the national assembly hall that they had secured.
“Get Kharevosk on the line!” Another soldier shouted. All of the screamed as it let loose with 20mm rounds in its immediate vicinity.
Inside the assembly hall, a strange but grim sight had unfolded. Masked men had taken the entire diplomats hostage as a well-built man with short blonde hair paced the lineup, his square face clearly visible.
“Princess, I’m glad to see that you came all this way. I honestly did not think you would leave your country.” The man towered over a girl about sixteen years old with long black hair, olive skin, and wore a purple blazer and skirt with a white blouse. She didn’t say anything as the men singled her out and yanked her along by her wrists.
“Take her to the roof; the UEA has not met our demands for ransom.” Kharevosk chuckled. “You’ll be coming with me, little girl.” He stroked a finger on her cheek.
The building rattled as everyone looked around. One of the men’s radios’s crackled.
“Sir! We’re under attack! One enemy – Aieeee!” There was static afterwards.
“Those backstabbers…” Kharevosk cursed.
The walls started to collapse as the large robot from outside tore into the building. The men started to fire as their weapons had no effect.
“Go!” One of the men yelled.
Kharevosk dragged the girl behind him, who was whimpering in fear. He disappeared into a hallway and ran into an elevator, shoving the girl against the side as they started to ascend the building.
Upon reaching the top, Kharevosk saw that his chopper was ready. Glad that something was going right, he started to hustle the princess inside when a deafening roar reached his ears.
The same robot that had crashed into the building had lit its thrusters and was hovering in sight, aiming what appeared to be a photon rifle at both of them.
“Let me guess, are you one of those Resistance fools?” Kharevosk roughly grabbed the girl’s back against him before pinning her by placing an arm around her neck. He then shoved a pistol at her head, thumbing the hammer. “How’s blasting your way into things going to help now?”
He slowly started to inch towards the helicopter, the robot not doing anything. Kharevosk started to climb in when there was a resounding report of a high-caliber rifle. He could feel his head explode as he realized that somewhere a sniper had picked him off from another building. As he hit the ground in his last second of life, he saw the robot open fire with CIWS gattling guns in its head before he took his last breath.
All of his men turned to face where the sniper shot had come from. In that small instant, the robot opened up with 20mm fire, laying down a ring of cover fire around the princess. The building started to crumble from the heavy firepower it was being subjected to as the robot reached towards the girl and picked her up.
“Your Highness, hang on!” the pilot called to her over a loudspeaker.
Rocketing away from the combat zone, the robot dove to the ground and landed where the military had started to place a command post to deal with the hostages. The soldiers were taken by surprise at the sudden landing as the robot slowly placed the princess on the ground.
Realizing that the robot wasn’t going to do anything, the guards kept their weapons trained, but did not fire. Most of them murmured in surprise at the princess who turned around to her benefactor.
“I, Princess Kalina Amukajan, thank you for saving my life. Accept my gratitude.” The girl bowed.
“You’re welcome. Know that the Resistance is a friend to you and your country until we find a way off Earth and live in space away from all this evil and misunderstanding.” The pilot answered.
“I hope that you will find the peace that you look for.” The girl hung her head slightly. “I have a feeling that you’ll find peace from the conflicts that rage on, but will be as lost children without parents. Don’t forget you are human beings that need each other, and where your true home is.”
The pilot didn’t answer as the robot took off and disappeared into the sky.
