It smells so clean and new
I wonder if we’re driving far
Maybe town? The zoo?
Grandpa has a special seat,
That pulls down in the middle
I sit upon to see the street
Cause I am sorta little
My Mom and Dad are going too
But in the model A
Along with boys that number two
Will journey on our way
Mamma made me dress up sweet
With paten leather on my feet
And dressed me in my favorite dress
That Grandma made last Christmas
I wonder where we’re going to
As in the cars we climb
And think about the things we’ll do
What treasures we will find
Grandma sits in back with me
Her fur coat warm and soft
She smells of lemon maybe tea
With feathered hat aloft
The cars start up and off we go
As Grandpa leads the way
Sometimes fast, but mostly slow
Cause of Daddy’s Model A
Our journey ended far from home
Upon a hill with trees
With lots of people standing round
Some upon their knees
I didn’t understand the tears
In such a pretty place
But love the smell of flowers near
The feel, the piece, of grace.
