Pastor’s come in all shapes and sizes. A variety of colors from pale, to yellow, to red, to the deepest ebony. They even come in two types, male and female. In a spectrum of ages from barely out of teen to octogenarian. It is a wonder, how it is.
Pastor’s can be simple speaking or scholarly. Many prefer to speak in the hood while others will only accept engagements filled to capacity to reach many at once. Yet, most speak only to a moderate number of seats on any given Sunday or Sabbath. It makes me wonder, how odd that is.
Pastor’s come with a variety of messages. Some teach how we are to serve God, while some teach that once we accept Jesus we are free and forgiven forever. Pastors may tell you to give from the heart, but the church six blocks away will tell you that tithing (to give one tenth) of your first fruits is a must. How odd this is and I do wonder.
We are told in one town praise is to be accapella, but the same denomination in a different state sing praises instrumental accompaniment! Sermons may come with black and white,. clear cut messages or may come with interpretational differences, such as with baptism. Sprinkle, dunk, water or fire? How odd it is that it makes me wonder.
Romans Chapter 14:4 speaks to me. The Lord asks, “Who are you to judge someone else's servant?” To his own master he stands or falls. And he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand’.(NIV). In scripture through Paul he reprimands me with an example of food and reminds me that one day I will be asked why I believe as I do and if I have been obedient to His words at during the intervals of my Christian life a little farther down this chapter. Rom 14:13 “Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in your brother's way.’(NIV) There appears to be a loop hole in our Christianity to give us grey areas as we grow in our faith. How odd, yet how wondrous is his grace and love that He provides for our imperfections!
Yes, it makes me wonder all the more. Life is so odd, so perplexing. It seems there is a Pastor to fit the any personality and any depth of hunger, yet the multitude I see spoken of or written about struggle and grope their way through life searching for hope, for purpose. They question: What is life all about? Where is hope? I gently share the Hope of Jesus, yet they back away mumbling they’ve tried church - it did not work for them. How strange, how odd. Jesus has given us a guarantee of eternal life without worries or cares for anyone who desires it. He does not go back on his word. How odd that they did not accept it. How it made me wonder.
Perhaps they were not sure how to find Him? Perhaps they had not read the words of comfort and hope? Of His promises. Did they have a bible? Could they not find a Pastor that spoke their language? Could they not share their fears with anyone? Could no one guide them deeper into this Hope? Or had the flock stopped following their Shepherd? Have the people become a stumbling block? Have we, the church helped the Pastors to guide young lambs into His pasture of rest? Or are we merely brushing off the opportunity each church meeting with a quick “Hello, it is nice to see you.” without looking into the eyes for the hunger we once knew so well? Have we so soon forgotten our own lost and hopeless days? How odd. How sad He must be.
