You'd think by now I would have learned how to control them--let them know whose boss! Of course that is just what they want me to think--let the guards down so they can march meekly out. But in no time at all they have me racing to complete projects.
Sometimes, I confess, I use them to occupy my time so I don't have to concentrate on my real problems. It's amazing how much dust can collect when your mind is playing all day. If those dishes could just walk themselves into the sink I'd be fine! And why do men want so much attention when you are in the middle of creating?
Lately, though, they've been coming in pretty handy. The news is depressing and you can't pick up a magazine without finding out something new that is destroying our children or their future enviornment. Instead of listening to stories of destruction, I walk through my mind and look into a few cubicles of ideas. I know now is not the time to figure out how to market a new business idea nor do I really have the time to totally redesign my web page, but surely,it wouldn't hurt to think about it for awhile...Since I am not in a position to finish any of the ideas, they get stuffed back more complicated than ever. Perhaps, I just needed a diversion from reality.
Some days I look back on my life and see all its starts and stops, finishes and half finishes. Things I had planned on doing but never found the time. I might be tempted to declare my life a disaster area till I think about all the little ideas that managed to escape and had some interesting endings. Makes me consider that I should spend more time letting them out and less time on doing the dishes. It works for me..
