The Lord is in Control

Eight school girls sat round a table; they were having a discussion during their break time.

“She told me that she is going to submit her application for the post of Head girl on Wednesday,” Ann said, and laughed. The other girls joined her laughing.

The girls were gossiping about Mary’s attitude in the school. Mary was the only Christian girl among the nine girls in a Grade 12 class of Newton Community High School. She was a brilliant and hard working girl. There were also other two Christian boys in Mary’s class, Peter and Jeff.

During the girls’ discussion, Rose voiced out, “I wish Lola becomes our Head girl instead of this Mary who is very arrogant.” Lola was another student girl from the other class; there were two Grade 12 classes at the school. Rose continued, “She once told me that Jesus is Lord, and I should surrender my life to Him. And I gave her a strict warning not to mention that name in my ears again.” The girls roared with laughter again.

“How can we stop her from becoming the Head girl?” Ann asked, looking at her friends intently.

Rose leaned slightly across the table, and said, “Mary shall not be the Head girl of this school.” Then, she suggested a plot; after two or three contributions from her friends, they all agreed with the plan.

The following day was Tuesday. The girls left the school library before the boys. Mary, not knowing their plan, followed them, and they headed straight back to their classroom. At the hallway, Ann drew Mary behind in pretence of asking her some questions, while the other girls continued walking. Having got to their classroom, according to their plan, Rose took away a beautiful flower vase form a shelf and smashed it on the ground. Few minutes later, Ann and Mary came in; the boys shortly joined the class.

Mr. Anderson, their class teacher, had been informed about the broken vase.

“Who broke the vase?” he asked.

Rose answered, “It was Mary who broke the vase, and I warned her to be careful, when she was pulling the shelf to look for her lost pen”.

“What? She is lying!” Mary shouted in disbelief.

“Mr. Anderson, I was not the one who broke the vase, and I don’t know anything about the broken vase.” Mary explained to the angry teacher.

“Then, who must have broken the vase? I believe you all know the punishment of 2 weeks suspension for breaking this vase.” He reminded the students.

“And I’m holding these two girls, Mary and Rose, responsible for breaking the vase.” Having announced his verdict, the teacher went to his office to prepare the suspension letters.

Mr. Anderson sat behind his desk to draft the letters. Suddenly, his phone rang. There was a nurse at the other end of the line, she informed Mr. Anderson, that his wife had just delivered a baby boy, their first child. Mr. Anderson completely forgot about the letters, he quickly left his office, took permission from the school principal, and left for the hospital to see his wife and the baby.

The next day was Wednesday, Mary went ahead to submit her application for the post of the school Head girl. Mr. Anderson had taken permission to stay away from the school for the rest of the week; he needed time to be with his wife, who had suffered certain medical complications during her delivery.

Mary was sad, and still worried concerning the proposed suspension. The two Christian boys came to console and pray with Mary during their break time.

“Mary, it’s not the end of the world, chillax, the Lord is in control. As the Lord spoke to the winds and sea in the Bible (Matthew 8: 26), so will He speak to this situation, and there shall be a great calm.” Peter said confidently.

On Friday, the principal announced to the school, that Mary had been selected as the Head girl.

“Victory!” Mary rejoiced.

The following week, Mr. Anderson was in the school. One of the girls had informed him that Rose was the one who broke the vase. Rose was confronted with this revelation; she didn't have any cause to deny, since Mary had already been chosen as the Head girl. Her plot had failed. She received the suspension letter from the teacher, and left the school to begin her compulsory leave.

Beautiful story about God is in control at all times, and He will never let us down.

Good beginning, you set up the immediate conflict, and kept us waiting to see how it'd all work out. God will always prevail.

Great job, I really enjoyed this. Thank you.

Hatred and envy is hidden all through the plot. If fact, they are what led up to the plotting.

The use of the word came at the right time and from the correct source. "Peace like a river comes" when our heart and faith are on accepting God's will in our lives.

I like how God took nine months "to save the day" and step in just at the right time to bring about the right ending to the story.
